Spencer Hardy Welch is a composer and pianist who has been writing and performing music for most of his life. Raised in a musical family, he began playing the piano and composing songs at the age of five and started formal classical training when he was eight.
Spencer continued to compose and perform music while also pursuing a professional career in public education. He has performed at hundreds of weddings, private parties, and corporate events. In the 1990s, Spencer recorded an album of original piano compositions, THUNDERHEAD; composed the theme music for a television pilot; and performed widely in concerts and private engagements throughout the western United States.
Recently, he has played recitals at the Kirkland Performance Center, the San Juan Island Community Theater, and at the Whatcom Museum, as well as in several smaller venues. He released his album, NOSTALGIA, in 2023, and his single, DREAMS in 2025. In 2026, he is releasing an original solo piano improvisation each month. His music can be heard on all the streaming platforms and in regular posts on Instagram at spencerhardywelch.
Spencer’s music has been described as lyrical and relaxing. What distinguishes it is its blend of classical, jazz, and popular influences, which creates a refreshing and elegant sound. Some of his songs are delicate nocturne-like pieces, others have jazz elements, and still other compositions are meditative improvisational works. It all comes together to form an engaging musical experience.
