Spencer Hardy Welch is a composer, pianist and public speaker who has been writing and performing music for most of his life. Raised in a musical family, he began a love affair with the piano at the age of five and started formal classical training when he was eight.
After choosing a career in public education, Spencer continued to compose and perform music as an avocation. He has performed at hundreds of weddings, private parties, and corporate events. Between 1994 and 1997, while taking a leave from his teaching and leadership roles to focus full time on music, Spencer recorded an album of original piano compositions, THUNDERHEAD; composed the theme music for a television pilot; and performed widely in concerts and private engagements throughout the western United States. Since 2019, Spencer has been dividing his time between leadership consulting, public speaking, and music composition and performance. He released his album, NOSTALGIA, in 2023.
Spencer’s music has been described as lyrical and relaxing. What distinguishes it is its blend of classical, jazz, and popular influences, which creates a refreshing and elegant sound. Some of his songs are delicate nocturne-like pieces, others have jazz elements, and still other compositions are meditative improvisational works. It all comes together to form an engaging musical experience.
